From the Captain's Table, July 2019

Hi Everybody here is the July Newsletter. Great to see members getting out and about doing events. As far as overseas events go, we had Steve Rossiter in the Gold Coast half which seemed to go well as the temperature was not as hot as usual so some good times were had. We also had a good contingent of HRR at the “Steamy Huka” in Taupo which I hear was a bit slippery but still a great day out. Then something a bit different… Marlin doing basically a geocaching event but worked off internet locations. Our Marlin must be a dab hand at this as he won this Auckland event. Also in Auckland we had Raewyn Richmond doing the ‘’Super Long’’ Xterra event at Totara Park. Park Run has also done well with 4 PB’s and then there was the rowdy Corrina Pinkerton doing her 100th Park Run with a trail of cans behind her - she certainly made a grand entrance at the finish chute. Then those that have been in training mode seem to really be enjoying the Sunday Run and coffee catch up.

Quiz Night - Thursday 15 August - It would be great to have a great turn out for this, as it is a fundraiser for ‘’Sam and Team Sally’’ due to do the New York Marathon. Bring friends and family to help your team’s chances of being the winner of the night.

Dinner Night - August 29 - Convenor Kerin and Group 1 - Always a great night; see you there.

Deal - Hamilton Half - 29 September - HRR can do a bulk deal on entrance. There is a sheet in the club house for you to indicate your desired distance. No need to pay yet as the club will enter as one and after claiming a discount will then recover it from you individually.

Ekiden Relay - 12 October - Not too late to put your name down on the sheet in the club house – also if you want accommodation tell Gary . Remember first in first served. Only $92 per person for TWO nights.

Deal - Waitetuna Windmill Run - 23 November - HRR can also do a bulk deal on entrance. There is a sheet in the club house and if you can put your name and distance on it we will enter as a bulk entry.

Upcoming - I hear HRR will have good numbers at Taupo Marathon. Wishing you all the best and may the weather be kind to you. Some are still haunted by some of the colder runs in the past. For those who want to stay closer to home there is the “ 4 Seasons Fun Run” on this weekend at Ann Street Hamilton. There are more off road Xterra’s coming up. Run the Forrest Rotorua and towards the end of the month, the Mount half on again.

CLUB NOTES

  • Running Group Lists – The lists are on the Notice Board in the corridor at HRR HQ – Please check to see which of the 4 groups you are assigned to – Any changes needed please see Gary.

  • HRR Away Book – Car Pooling – We have a book out on the table for events in the future and you write your name and event that you are going to. If there are others going to the same event, this can make it easier to carpool and share expenses.

  • HRR Results/Events Book – For the newer members we have a red book on the table to write in events that you have done with the distance and your time. This helps the HRR board decide who is an outstanding candidate for the HRR Athlete of the Month.

  • HRR Running Apparel – Yes we still have items on the go – See Gary for caps and peaks available now. Also some odds and sods jackets, t’s and singlets.
