Vicky's Voice There is so much going on each weekend that I’m having to go to work for a rest! Thanks to everyone for joining us for the pink run and walk, one of the coldest pink run and walks I have ever been to! Well done to Jean Lou, Daniel and Anthonie for ensuring the running club trophy stays in its rightful place. Big thanks to Andrew for his sausage and chicken kebab cooking too - it was well needed! A huge congratulations to Dick for completing his 150th half marathon in Auckland on Sunday - especially as he’s had to cram in 7 events over the last two months to ensure he finished at Auckland. Dick ran his first ever half in Taupo in 2008 and still enjoys running them - we know he’s crazy! Well done! Well done to Steve Adams for taking on Cape Kidnappers and if you see him ask him about the elevation…there was a lot but I bet the views were incredible! It was great to get up to Auckland and see so many of you out there - well done to all of you for running and walking on probably the windiest day ever!!! See Stu’s stats for all the results. We tried out Cambridge parkruns course B and mixed reviews as to whether it’s easier or harder, so go check it out and judge for yourself and let us know what you think. Thanks to Marlin for scoping out the course C option on Sunday too - be interesting if/when they move to it. We will be heading over again on the 18th. Speaking of parkruns with elevation we have a roadie booked in for the 25th November to try out Northern Pathways parkrun in Albany. Apparently it’s hilly! We will have a bonus mid week run on Tuesday at 5:30 from the Good Neighbour, Rototuna to check out some Halloween houses! Dare you join us? Finally good luck to everyone running this weekend with events in Fielding, The amount and Waitomo. We are also joining Anna on Sunday for a few laps around Lake Kainui. Find out more further on in the newsletter. See you Tuesday or Thursday! Vicky Halloween run Meet at Good Neighbour Rototuna at 5:30 on Halloween (Tuesday 31st) for a run around the most haunted houses in the area. Food afterwards. Please note Hukanui can be quite busy so let us know if you are running late. The route is on strava and the Facebook event but it is approximately 8km. Member of the month Our member of the month is Sarah-Jane in recognition for all her training over the winter months to go and take on the Tekapo 50km which she completed in September. We gave her a Coffee Culture voucher as she has now left us for Christchurch because there are more hills and bluer skies!! Good luck with your next adventure and some of you will see you in Queenstown in a couple of weeks. Club Spirit Award Nominations We are coming up to the end of year and that means award time! We want your votes for the Club Spirit Award. Who do you think has shown the most club spirit over the last 12 months - let us know by clicking on the following link: https://forms.gle/kZWwKpSV5swfbrHc8 There will also be a form to fill out on Thursday night. Thursday The usual runs and walks at the club. Saturday It’s the Uni’s 3rd birthday - so if you like cake get on down to the village green for 8am. Sunday On Sunday 9am-12pm we are supporting Anna (who runs our strength and stretching programme) to raise money and awareness on Arthrogryposis, which is a condition Anna’s daughter and 1 in 3000 other children are born with every year, it is a purely physical condition for most where muscles and joints do not develop properly. These people are strong minded, determined, intelligent, and full of limitless potential with support and acceptance from their community. This event is in its 3rd year and not only helps build awareness for the condition, but it is a fun morning outdoors by the lake where you can come run/ walk or cycle 1 or as many laps as you can over the 3 hours. Enjoy a sausage sizzle and community fun. We will donate a dollar per lap for all club members who run or walk so come and join the fun. What's coming up? November
