From the Captain's Table, March 2019

Hi, and welcome everybody to the March newsletter. There seems to have been plenty happening lately and I thank the club for your support on all the events contested.

Kirikiriroa Marathon – Well where do I start? I have been that impressed. We had four members running the full marathon and nine teams. Then there were all the HRR marshals at the turnaround water station and our Ann Street water station. What a fantastic turnout of HRR’s supporting this event. It was great to hear from quite a few of the marathoners that the music banging away and the HRR welcoming committee at the turn around and Ann Street gave them a great lift to push them on to the finish of their marathon. I would like to congratulate Sam Foster’s on her 1st marathon result as well as Corrina, a new club member who stepped up and ran in a team and did a tidy time. Then there was President Gary who spent hours liaising with the Kirikiriroa Committee, sorting extra teams and drink station details… he has really been the big engine in this.

My thanks to the HRR club for such a great amount of support on the day.

Waikato Hospice - Another great turnout for this event at the Hamilton Gardens for the Waikato Hospice fun run/walk. All fifteen HRRs performed well. This is always a great cause to support.

Round the vines – Martinborough – HRRs were there too and supported this fundraiser for the local school.

Waipa Fun Run – Cambridge – Yes HRR strikes again. We were there too supporting another fundraiser for a local school.

Sunday Run – Lake Puketirini – Many Thanks to Gary and Annette for a great run and bbq around the sparkling lake. A great day was had by all.

Waitomo Trail Run – only a few days to go and HRR will be there. It is great to see some attempting their first off-road event. My congratulations for trying something different.

May 4 – Rotorua Marathon – We have booked the lodges and this is a great weekend away. Events range from 42 Km down to 5 km so plenty to choose from, so please book in and join us there. A Friday and Saturday night bed is $90-00. As your bed booking is only confirmed once payment is made into our HRR bank account, get in quick so you don’t miss out. (for bank account details refer ‘Club Notes’).

May 11 – HRR Memorial Relay – Lock this date in your calendar. Please be at HRR club rooms 7:15 am Saturday May 11 wearing your club shirt for our club photo (if you do not have one we do have a few spares). Then we are off to the Taitua Arboretum for a fun relay (speed not essential) and after, we report back to HRR club rooms for a great memorial lunch commencing at 1 pm with a free flute of bubbles. There is a list circulating at the club for names of people participating in the relay and/or the meal. See Neil for more info.

May 18 – Hawkes Bay Marathon – Napier – Looks like some interest in this event if you want a weekend away. Choose the length of the event you want to do and come away with us. From what I hear, all events finish at a winery.
