Blue Lake 24hr Challenge

Saturday 23rd-24th September saw another successful running of the Blue Lake 24hr Challenge: A self supported 6, 12 & 24 hours run around the Blue Lake in Rotorua (as well as a few friendly laps for the less ambitious - all were welcome). Hamilton Road Runners own Gary and Paula both completed incredible achievements on the day.

Superwoman Paula managed to pound through 24 laps - 135Km, and at 5am (21 hours in) was still chatting & looking fresh.

Gary also earned a prestigious 100Km finisher mug, running the distance in 22 ½ hours. Much appreciation and credit must also go to Gary's dedicated support crew of club friends & family for keeping him motivated and sane (or as near to, as someone aiming to run 100Km can be). So a big well done too, to Annette, Mel, Michelle, Pat, Chris, Lisa and Lex.

At 23 hours and 38 minutes, participants had ran an impressive total of 3256 Km and were still going! The previous year's record was decimated. A great 24 hours of fun and achievement. Well done to all who ran, and the organisers, fans and supporters. Next year, how many laps will you do?!
