About Wayne
Wayne has been a Road Runner since 1985 and is now a lifetime member of the club. Before he became Club President in 2021, Wayne was also Club Captain and wrote the club newsletter for almost 10 years!

Born and bred in Hamilton, New Zealand, Wayne began his running journey at 38 years old because he wanted to keep fit. Wayne was a scuba diving and basketball instructor (not at the same time), and seemed to have a natural ability for running, completing his first marathon in 3 hours 40 and his second in under 3 hours!!!
At 75 years old Wayne has taken part in many races which include 6 half Iron Mans and 30 Marathons at Rotorua making him a member of the Rotorua Marathon Survivors Club! Wayne's favourite event is the New York Marathon, which he completed three years ago at the age of 72!!
Wayne said: "I joined the Hamilton Road Runners for the social aspect. I loved running but definitely enjoyed the socialising too!" Wayne is often found walking with the retired men's walking group on a Wednesday, propping up the bar on club night and Rotorua Marathon!
